Charles Murphy

Hall of Fame class of 19601 card

Purdue's 6-foot-6 center, one of the first great big men in the game. He was an All-State player on Marion High School's 1926 Indiana championship team, which beat a Martinsville team whose sophomore guard was John Wooden. He then set a Big Ten scoring record at Purdue and captained the unbeaten-in-conference 1930 team. In 1960 Murphy, Wooden, and their coach Ward Lambert entered the Hall of Fame together in only its second class. His career ended in 1934, fourteen years before the first national basketball set, so his earliest catalogued card is a Hall of Fame bookmark issued decades later.
